(The Emigrant)     (1973)

Directed by Pasquale Festa Campanile

Thursday November 16, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.   at the IACC

The film begins as a small boy watching his father board a ship to America. Years later, Adriano Celentano takes the same route (dressed as a woman to avoid the draft) to search for his father and begin a new life. Numerous Italian folk songs also help to transport us to Little Italy of a century ago. Our hero had many jobs to make his way in America. A running gag involves a socialite who has the hots for Celentano but he only has eyes for Claudia Mori, an Italian folk singer he met on his way. Celentano gets into a life of crime and starts to learn of his father. As the plot becomes more serious, humor returns in the end.
